Founding Member Richard Leong's Inspiration

Richard Leong is the President of the Two Tunics Fund and a founding member of Renewal Philanthropy.

Richard’s reason for supporting Renewal Philanthropy and what survivor-driven change means to him is listed below:

  • 3 key reasons Richard joined Renewal Philanthropy:
    • He wants to continue learning about survivor-driven change.
    • He loves the idea of bringing like-minded people together.
    • It has given him further clarity on why he wants to support survivors.
  • Richard defines survivor-driven change as supporting survivors, people who have come out of a hardship
  • Richard wants to make a difference and help others.

The benefit of collaborating with other funders on survivor-driven change.

  • Richard says, “I don’t think that philanthropy is meant to be a solo event.” Trying to give alone is challenging without dedicated resources and support to answer key questions such as: “what charitable organization should I support? Where will my money do the most good? How do I know how effective the organization will be in utilizing my funds?”
  • Richard has served on the board of the NW Chapter of the National Christian Foundation (NCF). They are the largest provider of Donor Advised Funds in the U.S., and last year $1.6B in grants were given under NCF’s management.
  • Richard feels fortunate to be around people who are generous and also insightful in how they deeply review charities in terms of who they are and what they do.
